忠實朋友

特朗普當上美國總統後，過不了一會就要辭退一個本來與他關係很密切的夥伴；他身邊的人都紛紛跟他反臉。

儘管如此，他當得上總統，還很可能競逐連任， 身邊自然有很多忠實的支持者（loyal supporters）。表示忠誠、忠實，最常用的字是loyal：a loyal supporter是忠實的支持者，a loyal friend是忠誠的朋友，即無論發生什麼事你都可以依靠他，他不會出賣你。

與loyal很接近的一個字是faithful；我們也可以說a faithful friend、a faithful supporter；一個忠實的讀者也可以叫a faithful reader。

一、I have been a faithful reader of your newspaper for many years.（我是貴報多年的忠實讀者。）

二、She was rewarded for her 40 years' faithful service with the company.（她為公司忠誠服務了40年，獲得獎賞。）

忠於原則、忠於理想，也可說loyal或faithful：

三、She has always remained loyal to her political principles.（她總是信守自己的政治原則。）

四、He remained faithful to the ideals of the party.（他對黨的理想堅貞不移。）

另一個和loyal、faithful很接近的字是true；這個形容詞有很多解法，最常見的是解作真假的真。如果說a true supporter或者a true friend，也表示忠誠的意思。

形容堅定的支持者，另一個說法是a staunch supporter；staunch是堅定、忠實的意思。

五、They are staunch supporters of our party.（他們是我們政黨的堅定支持者。）

六、He considers himself a staunch Republican, although he has not voted for a Republican candidate for many years.（他認為自己是堅定的共和黨人，儘管他多年來沒有投票給共和黨候選人。）

還有一個字steadfast，通常用來形容表現、行為，例如steadfast loyalty，忠貞不渝。

七、He was steadfast in his belief that he had done the right thing.（他堅定地相信，他所做的是對的。）

八、He remained steadfast in his determination to bring the killers to justice.（他要把殺人兇手繩之於法的決心一直沒有動搖。）

有幾個字是用否定的方式來表達堅定的。例如「轉軚」是不堅定的表現；轉軚的英文動詞是swerve，unswerving就是永遠不會轉軚的、堅定不移的，可以說unswerving support或unswerving loyalty。

九、Her love for her family is unswerving.（她對家庭的愛護堅定不移。）

十、His works have been acclaimed for their unswerving sincerity.（他的作品以一貫的坦誠而受稱讚。）

第二個動詞waver，指搖擺不定、動搖；unwavering就是毫不動搖的，無論發生什麼事都非常堅定，所以也可以說unwavering support或unwavering loyalty。

十一、His policy was consistent, unwavering, conservative.（他的政策是一貫的、堅定的、保守的。）

十二、His voice was as unwavering and self-assured as ever.（他的語氣如常地堅定自信。）

再有一個動詞是falter，即是減弱、退縮；unfaltering就是毫不退縮的。

十三、She fixed him with a level and unfaltering gaze.（她用冷靜而堅定的目光瞪着他。）

十四、His loyalty to his father remains unfaltering.（他對父親的忠誠毫不動搖。）

人生得一知己，死而無憾。如果你的朋友對你的支持稱得上staunch、steadfast、unwavering、 unfaltering、unswerving，他就是你的loyal friend、faithful friend、true friend。
