Bland Generation HK上有此如答案般的一問:「What is it like to grow up in a city that is meant to enjoy Western-style democratic freedom while being brought ever close into the embrace of one of the world's most powerful authoritarian states?」
Dear Hong Kong: A Elegy for a City,我猛然想起Roger Scruton千禧年間寫的那卷England: An Elegy。
看Xu Xi的逝水輓歌,我倒沒有太多的sentiment,大概我從來在此地生長,此地呼吸,其實不覺得從前太美麗,只是目下太荒寒太傖俗太核突太今不如昔,我們才有傷逝,而那追憶逝水年華原來是我們對抗現實的fiction,Xu Xi細細問:「What is memory, after all, if not a fiction to replay and revise the stories of our lives when the city becomes unmanageable? Unbearable, intolerable, irascibly impossible.」
